Kinja'd!!!

I usually only take my phone out and leave it in the cupholder so I can easily access waze or change songs but it has become a habit to enter the car and before buckling up I take my phone out even though I won't use it. This morning, though, for some reason I also put my wallet there and commuted feeling naked and never really thought about this.

How about you guys? Do you have the habit of emptying your pockets when you drive or you leave it there unless it's necessary?

Just my wallet. It hurts my butt. Actually, I've heard that it's bad for your back, as it cranks your pelvis.

It is so bad for your back. I switched to a money clip years ago (many benefits!) and my back has never felt better.

I usually take out my wallet and phone. I don't like sitting on my wallet and need to use my phone sometimes.

And the phone stays?

I keep my wallet on my front pocket, leaving it there doesn't hinder the precious act of sitting. Although until last month I used to keep it in my backpack because I had a huge wallet that barely fit in my pocket. This one pictured is perfectly sized, I love it.

I think I'm the only person who carries the wallet in the front pocket.

I take out my wallet, phone and pretty much everything that would be used in that day... I feel more comfortable.

I was about to switch to a money clip until I found this wallet I'm using. Many benefits indeed.

I used to but I like to keep my phone in one pocket and keys in the other and the wallet doesn't really work well with either of those. When I'm wearing a [winter] jacket I'll put the wallet in an inside pocket so I don't even have to deal with it in the car.

I have a dock for my phone so it can charge and dashcam. My wallet is in my side pocket, so it doesn't hurt. And that's all I have other than my keys, which end up in the ignition at some point.

Wallet/money clip goes into the cup holder to act as a kind of cushion for my phone (hate hearing it rattle). Anything else goes into the center console...I don't like driving with things in my pocket because back pockets get uncomfortable and side pockets get moved around by the seat belt.

I always wear shorts with an outer pocket on the front (sorta like cargo shorts, but more like hiking shorts). So it doesn't bother me there. On longer drives, though, the phone is sitting on the pax seat because I'm listening to music.

Sometimes I take my phone out, sometimes I don't. And if the drive is longer than 1.5 hours, the wallet goes too. But usually my wallet is so thin it makes no difference :)

Now that seats in cars are becoming firmer (compared to the couches our parents and grand parents used to roll around in) I can't see a lot of people being comfortable with anything in their rear pockets. Side pockets are a personal preference, but I have broad legs that fill up the seat side-to-side so having items in my pockets is uncomfortable...

The key thing was very awkward when I drove my boss's Keyless car. It's impossible to leave a car's key in the pocket, so I just usually tossed it somewhere.

Phone, ipod and wallet are in chest pockets, ipod comes out to play, but everything else stays. Smokes come , but lighters stay (I lose them like crazy). Keys are on a carabiner, so no pocketing goes on there.

Used have my wallet in my pocket, but my back doesn't like that anymore.

Makes sense. I, too, had this issue, but I never got used to leaving it in the back pocket. So I just had to get used to leave it in the same pocket as the wallet. The swiss knife goes in that small pocket on the right, usually fits perfectly.

Key to ignition
Wallet to slot in dash by left knee
Phone in cup holder or armrest handle/void on door
Work ID in top compartment of centre console/armrest

Seatbelt was never a issue for me. Unless I was wearing some tight pants (which hasn't happend in a while because I've lost 40lbs last year), then I had to unbuckle to reach for the phone or wallet.

The cushion thing is very true. But on my current DD the cupholder is neatly rubberised, so the phone doesn't rattle when I leave it there.

I have the same problem with those fancy newfangled cars. I clip my keys to my belt loop, but I don't really want to sit on them, especially if there's an expensive fob attached to it...

Hahahahahah.

I used to be an Adventurer like you, then I started commuting with my fiancee. Now the moment I want to put things in certain places she has already put her make up, earrings and stuff in random places, so I don't have a system anymore.

Nah. When I can't use it in the front pockets, I use it in the lower side pockets.

I tried to clip them on the belt loop, seemed like a good place to keep keys. But I always felt like I was a middle-aged man who wanted to show everyone he had a fancy truck (no matter what car it was, I was never able to walk around like this), and something dangling from my waist when I walked also felt kinda phallic.

My keys have a Gerber keychain tool on it so sometimes the belt presses it into my leg.

There's a rubber insert for my cup holder too but I don't have a case on my GS3 so I like to ensure that it doesn't bounce too much.

The chest pocket was a nice place to keep things when I had to work in a suit. But even then, I never liked to drive in a suit, so I removed the suit before driving and with it, I removed the phone and wallet to keep them in the center console.

Oh, your fiancee!!!

lol every time someone mentions their fiancee I think of that. Congrats though!

My girlfriend is pretty ok with shit her shit in my car. Though she is horrendous for leaving her keys, wallet, drivers license, credit/debit or any combo of those. Too many times have I had to drive to her place to "return" things. She never leaves cash though, go figure!

I don't take out anything. All my stuff is in my front pockets and doesn't bother me while I'm driving. Although I did have to get used to wearing my knife in a belt holster when I moved it from my pocket. For the first couple of weeks it kept poking me and rubbing my skin quite badly. Luckily, it doesn't happen anymore.

Ahahahahah. Excellent video. I always have this feeling that I annoy people when I say "fiancee". But on the other hand it's weird to call her Girlfriend now. So I end up calling her "my lady" most of the times.

I must take a picture of my center console. It's a pirate chest of sparkly rings, earrings, coins, lipstick, little mirror... I try to clean up and put it in the glovebox, but I just blink and the it's all over the car again.

Saturday I was cleaning up, I found a single earring under the carpet. I put it on the table and my sister in law goes "Oh! You found it! Thank you! I was looking for this one for weeks!".. EVEN YOU?!

It's impossible to drive with a well bolstered seat and keep things in the pockets. I only keep my wallet because my DD isn't really bolstered on the lower part of the seat.

These people must be out of their minds. Go figure some internet commenters.

I've heard people (chiropractors, they're people too) say that carrying your wallet in your back pocket can affect your back, posture, and hips.

Whatever the case, I generally like emptying my pockets, taking off my jacket, and focusing on the drive. The fact that my car has bucket seats and that I'm quite a big fella means having my wallet out is pretty much a necessity.

I've heard this too, many people have pointed this out.

Bucket seats or any other seat that is well bolstered, you can't have things in your pocket. Even if you can, you shouldn't.

When I wear a suit, everything is the same for me, but when I 'suit up' I'm generally wearing an overcoat, and _that_ definitely gets in the way in the car, so that goes in the back seat for sure.

Phone and wallet come out of the pants.

Depending on which car and shoe combo, sometimes the shoes have to come off too and the play the pedals in my socks.

I leave my pockets full. Back right pocket is wallet, front right pocket is keys and pocketknife, front left is phone. Keys leave the pocket when I'm driving, of course.
